You Know What You Need the Glass to Do. We'll Help You Figure Out How to Make It.

Most customers don’t call us asking for “glass fabrication.”

They call because they’re building something.

A cabinet company may need fifty identical pieces for a run of cabinet doors.

A display manufacturer may need twelve shelves cut to the same dimensions.

A woodworker may need one unusual piece that doesn’t match any standard size.

And an individual planning a wedding may need ten matching glass tabletops.

Different customers. Different quantities. Same basic need: glass made to the specifications of the project.

Sometimes they have a drawing.

Sometimes they have a template.

Sometimes they simply have a piece and say,

“Can you make this?”

Usually, the answer starts with understanding exactly what they’re trying to accomplish.

At Independent Glass, we provide custom glass cutting and fabrication for businesses throughout Chattanooga and the surrounding area. From one custom piece to hundreds of repeatable cuts, we can help turn your dimensions, drawings, templates, and existing components into finished glass that’s ready for whatever you’re building next.

Custom Doesn't Have to Mean One-of-a-Kind.

When people hear “custom cut glass,” they often picture a single unusual piece.

We certainly make those.

But custom fabrication can also mean making the same piece 12 times.

Or 50.

Or 500.

For many of our business partners, consistency is just as important as customization.

Once we’ve established the dimensions and specifications for a piece, our fabrication equipment allows us to reproduce it accurately and efficiently. We can retain those specifications for future orders, too, so when you need the same component months or years later, we don’t necessarily have to start from scratch.

That’s what “bulk glass” has traditionally meant at Independent Glass.

It isn’t about meeting some enormous minimum order.

It’s about having the capability to produce the glass your business needs, in the quantities your project requires.

Glass Components for the Things You Build.

There isn’t one typical custom glass fabrication customer.

What our customers have in common is that glass is usually one part of something larger.

Cabinet Glass & Cabinet Door Glass

Cabinet companies and woodworkers are some of the businesses we work with most often.

Sometimes a project requires six pieces of cabinet glass, all slightly different because the doors themselves aren’t identical.

Other times, a manufacturer needs dozens or hundreds of pieces made to the same specifications.

Either way, custom fabrication allows us to produce cabinet door glass around the actual dimensions of the product rather than forcing the product to accommodate a standard piece of glass.

And when a particular pattern or size becomes part of a customer’s regular product line, we can retain those specifications to make future orders easier to reproduce.

Retail fixtures and displays are another natural fit for custom fabrication.

We supply custom glass shelving and display glass for businesses building:

  • Retail displays
  • Display cases
  • Showcases
  • Sign displays
  • Museum displays
  • Countertops
  • Specialty fixtures

In many cases, we’re not building the finished display.

We’re working with the company that is.

You build the cabinet, case, fixture, or display. We fabricate the glass components you need to complete it.

Then there are the projects that don’t fit neatly into a category.

Those are often some of the most interesting.

If glass needs to become part of a product, piece of equipment, fixture, or assembly, we’ll take a look at what you’re trying to build and determine whether we can fabricate it.

We’ve worked on everything from everyday cabinet components to highly specialized pieces for industrial applications.

You don’t need to know what category your project belongs in before you call.

You just need to know what you’re trying to make.

Make It Once. Make It Again.

One of the biggest advantages of digital fabrication becomes apparent long after the first order leaves our shop.

Let’s say you bring us a pattern for a custom cabinet insert.

We digitize it, fabricate the glass, and deliver the order.

Six months later, you need another one.

Or another 50.

Because we’ve already established the pattern, we can return to those specifications and reproduce the component without rebuilding the entire process from the beginning.

For manufacturers and businesses with recurring needs, that repeatability can save a considerable amount of time.

It also gives you something equally valuable: Consistency.

The glass you order next year should match the glass you’re ordering today.

Sometimes the Biggest Advantage Is Being Nearby.

You can order custom glass from companies all over the country.

And sometimes their price will be lower than ours.

We’ve won projects anyway.

Why?

Because custom fabrication doesn’t always go exactly according to the original plan.

Dimensions change. A prototype needs an adjustment. A sample doesn’t look quite right. Someone realizes a component needs to be an eighth of an inch smaller.

When your glass supplier is hundreds of miles away, even a small change can mean emails, shipping, waiting, and another round of freight.

When we’re right here in Chattanooga, you can talk to us.

We can look at the piece. We can review a sample. And when something needs to change, we can often respond much faster.

For businesses relying on glass as one component of a much larger project, that responsiveness can matter far more than a few cents saved on the original piece.

Built to Your Specifications.

Glass rarely gets to dictate the dimensions when it’s one component of a larger product.

The cabinet already has an opening. The display has already been designed. The shelf needs to fit between two existing supports. The component has to match the drawing.

That’s where custom glass fabrication becomes valuable.

Independent Glass can fabricate annealed glass in-house in a variety of thicknesses, from approximately 3/32 inch through 3/8 inch, depending on the application.

And we aren’t limited to squares and rectangles. Our fabrication capabilities can accommodate:

If you already have a drawing or CAD file, great.

If you have a physical template or existing component that needs to be reproduced, we can work from that, too.

And if you’re not quite sure how the glass needs to be fabricated yet, that’s a conversation we’re happy to have.

Precision Glass Cutting Without Doing Everything by Hand.

There was a time when a complicated pattern meant laying everything out and cutting it manually.

Technology has changed what we’re able to do.

Our CNC glass cutting capabilities allow us to digitize patterns, calculate complex dimensions, optimize cuts across a sheet, and reproduce pieces with far greater consistency than traditional hand cutting alone.

That matters for one unusual piece.

It matters even more when we’re making 100 of them.

Once a pattern has been established digitally, we can reproduce the same component with a level of consistency that’s difficult to achieve by repeatedly measuring and cutting each piece by hand.

The technology makes us faster. More importantly, it helps us get the glass right.

Precision Matters. So Does Turnaround.

A perfectly fabricated piece of glass isn’t very useful if it arrives after you needed it.

That’s why speed and accuracy go hand in hand in this part of our business.

Our equipment allows us to move custom orders through production efficiently while maintaining the repeatability business customers depend on.

But turnaround isn’t just about how quickly we can cut the glass.

Material availability, fabrication requirements, and the limitations of the glass itself can all affect how long an order takes. We’ve been working with glass since 1925, and that experience helps us recognize those variables early, explain what’s possible, and give you a realistic lead time you can plan around.

Our goal is straightforward: Make what you need. Make it accurately. And get it to you when you need it.
